Chautauqua Institution is a summer center that encompasses the arts, education, religion and recreation. Leading thinkers of our time come to speak at the extraordinary open amphitheater. Chautauqua Institution draws over 150,000 people each summer. This is a place where music, dance, opera, theater and visual arts are in abundance. It was designated a National Historic Landmark on June 30, 1989. Some visitors describe it as an ‘experience’ rather than a vacation.
